Brain, Cognition, and Sleep

Brain, Cognition, and Sleep services offered in San Luis Obispo, CA

Brain health, cognitive function, and sleep are closely connected to long-term independence, performance, and quality of life.

Establishing a baseline, identifying meaningful change, and addressing factors that influence neurologic health

A clinical view of brain health

Changes in memory, attention, sleep, mood, movement, and physical function may arise from many different causes. They are best understood within the broader medical context rather than through a single test or score.

Wavepoint considers neurologic history, sleep, cardiovascular and metabolic health, medications, physical activity, sensory function, daily performance, and other factors that may influence cognition and brain health over time.

Cognitive assessment and baseline measurement

Cognitive screening may be useful for establishing a baseline, identifying patterns that merit further attention, or following change over time.

Depending on clinical need, assessment may include structured neurocognitive testing of memory, attention, processing speed, executive function, and related domains. Results are interpreted alongside education, occupation, sleep, mood, medical history, medications, and functional observations.

A screening result does not by itself establish a diagnosis. When findings warrant further evaluation, Wavepoint may recommend additional testing or referral to an appropriate specialist.

Sleep as a foundation of health

Sleep influences cognition, metabolic regulation, cardiovascular health, immune function, mood, recovery, and physical performance.

Wavepoint reviews sleep duration, timing, continuity, symptoms, daily alertness, and relevant wearable data. When clinically appropriate, evaluation may include home sleep testing or other physiologic assessment.

The objective is to identify treatable sleep disorders and practical opportunities to improve sleep—not simply to pursue an idealized sleep score.

Neurologic and neurophysiologic evaluation

Dr. Price’s background in neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and sleep medicine provides additional perspective when symptoms or findings raise neurologic questions.

Electroencephalography and other neurophysiologic studies are not routine components of longevity evaluation. They may be used when the clinical history or examination provides a specific indication.

Reducing risk and preserving function

No single intervention can guarantee preservation of cognition or prevent neurodegenerative disease.

Wavepoint focuses on modifiable contributors where evidence and clinical judgment support action. These may include sleep, blood pressure, metabolic health, physical activity, hearing, medication effects, mood, social engagement, and other factors relevant to the individual.

Following change over time

Repeated assessment may help distinguish ordinary variability from a meaningful trend.

The scope and frequency of cognitive, sleep, or neurologic follow-up vary according to clinical need, member priorities, and level of membership. When additional expertise is required, Wavepoint coordinates with appropriate clinicians and diagnostic resources.
